Loam Thrower
The project explores a new way of creating furniture, using an experimental machine, the Loam Thrower. Using compressed air, loam is propelled into a transparent acrylic mold, where it accumulates in layers along the floor and walls. Where the material grows vertically, legs are formed. The Tabletop is being formed on the floor. After demolding, the object is turned over—a table has been created. The traces of the process remain visible: the textured underside of the object contrasts with the smooth exterior surface. The process is reminiscent of the age old building technique of throwing loam but reimagined as a manufacturing process for furniture.
As part of the “A Magic Touch In A Magical World” collection, the Loam Thrower was exhibited at Salone Satellite during the Milano Design Week 2026.
